Match the capacity and the number of batteries

Start from the capacity written on the old battery or in the operator's manual. Japanese crawler combines such as the Kubota DC-70 take a single 12 V battery of about 50–75 Ah. Large combines such as the Claas Lexion take 150–180 Ah, and many have two batteries, so check how many your machine has before buying.

Look after it between seasons

  • A combine stands unused most of the year, and that, more than work, is what ruins its battery. Disconnect the negative cable, or charge the battery once a month while it stands.
  • Before the season, charge it fully and check the water level (unless it is a sealed battery).
  • Keep dust and chaff off the battery and its terminals: they hold moisture and let the battery drain.
  • Maintenance-free batteries suit machines that stand for months at a time.
