Big radial tyres that carry the machine
A self-propelled forage harvester such as the Claas Jaguar drives on its big front wheels and steers with the smaller rear ones, like a combine. The drive tyres carry the engine, the chopping drum and the header, so they are wide, low-pressure radials such as 650/75 R32 or 800/65 R32 that spread the weight in soft fields.
These sizes are not made in Pakistan. Dealers import them, often second-hand from Europe along with the machines, so ask for the exact size written on your tyre's sidewall.
Wider tyres and the rims
Claas offers the Jaguar with several drive tyre widths (650, 800 or 900 mm). A wider tyre floats better in wet silage fields but needs the matching rim and makes the machine wider on the road. Fit the same size and make on both drive wheels.
Look after forage harvester tyres
- Keep the pressure the operator's manual gives for your tyre size: radials run at low pressure, and too little air damages the sidewall.
- Stubble of maize and fodder cuts tyres; look for cuts after each season.
- Between seasons, park on firm, dry ground out of the sun, and take the weight off the tyres if the machine stands for months.
